Trinamool General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has started the Nav Jowar program, a 60-day campaign to collect party candidates for the upcoming elections.
Banerjee addressed a meeting in Sitai, Coochbehar, where he made allegations against the BSF deployed at the border, claiming that they were killing innocent people of Bengal. He met with the families of Prem Kumar Barman and Muffazal Rehman, who were killed in a BSF shootout, but they said they had no demands and had come to meet their leader.
Banerjee also visited the Madhaipur Kalimandir in Bamanhat of Dinhata and offered prayers for the success of the Jan Sanyog Yatra.
As part of the Nav Jowar program, Banerjee has called for the formation of a people's panchayat and for common people to choose their candidate to understand their rights. Those who cannot vote in the ballot can call and tell the name of their favorite candidate, and Banerjee gave the phone number of Dinhata Forum for this purpose.
